Vehicle Tracking & Dispatch
Overview
Real-time fleet booking and tracking for a cargo operator — live GPS tracking and automated driver assignment, built on Go with Kafka and Redis.
Responsibilities
- Built the Go (Gin) backend with Apache Kafka as the event backbone.
- Ingested GPS telemetry from the Flutter driver app and projected live positions into Redis.
- Implemented automated driver assignment as a Kafka consumer reacting to booking events.
- Streamed live vehicle positions to dispatcher dashboards over WebSocket.
- Persisted durable location history in PostgreSQL via GORM.
Result
- 60% reduction in booking processing time
- Roughly 70% lower dispatch latency with instant vehicle location updates
- Driver assignment automated, removing the manual call-around step
- Live tracking available to dispatchers and customers on the same data path
